Capital City Rescue Mission

Mission Statement: Capital City Rescue Mission is dedicated to proclaiming the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ to the homeless and needy of the capital region. Providing for the whole person -body, mind and spirit- that they will return to society maturing in Christ as productive citizens.

In 1982, the new Executive Director, Perry Jones, developed a discipleship/rehabilitation program. Soon the Mission began to serve larger numbers of needy people. The average age of Mission clients became much younger than those of earlier decades. Other new programs were added, including a Learning Center, free medical clinic, counseling and referrals. Many partners joined with the Mission in serving the needy. Because of the numerous services and spiritual hope the Mission offers, it has grown to be the largest shelter in the city.

In June 2000, the Mission relocated to a new 37,000 sq. foot facility at 259 South Pearl Street to alleviate overcrowding and more adequately serve the homeless. Presently, over 175 individuals are sheltered each night and over 500 meals are served every day. Dedicated staff, hard working volunteers and faithful donors are partners in this endeavor.

In January 2002, our goal to accommodate and provide services and programs specifically for women and children was realized as buildings were purchased for a Family Center. The newly renovated New Faith Family Center was opened in 2003 and presently consists of 4 buildings offering a residential program.

Plans for the future include renovation of a recently purchased warehouse for transitional housing and inner city youth ministry. The Mission has been privately funded since its conception and does not receive any city, state or federal funds.
